Discovering and becoming involved with BDSM can be an exciting experience. You may have stumbled across a particular fetish online or became interested from watching Fifty Shades Of Grey, although what isn’t commonly mentioned is creating a successful BDSM relationship can take time and a lot of patience.

Having been apart of a Dom/Sub relationship for over a year, me and my partner have discovered a lot about the BDSM lifestyle. In this blog post, my princess decided I should share our tips for a healthy and successful kinky relationship.

6 Tips For A Kinky Relationship

  1. Consent – Everyone involved in the BDSM relationship should give their permission for the activities within the relationship. Anyone involved can revoke their consent during a scene with a safeword.
  2. Discuss Fetishes – Have an open conversation about different fetishes can allow everyone to be on the same lines. For anyone new to BDSM, I would recommend creating a list of fetishes and start discussing which ones your desire and which would be a hard limit.
  3. Use A Safeword – Within a BDSM relationship, you should agree to a safeword. This safeword is to be used during play to stop a particular scene if things become too much. Choose a word that isn’t likely to be required during a session (e.g. red, apple, pineapple, yellow). Another safety measure is to agree upon a gesture, which works in the same way as a safeword but used when speech is restricted (e.g. when a submissive is wearing a gag).
  4. Regular Communication – Having regular communication allows you to revisit fetishes and desires, discuss certain scenes and make sure everyone is happy. Depending on the intensity of the BDSM relationship, it can be worth setting a reminder to have a chat, you may be surprised how beneficial it can be.
  5. Start Slowly – Whether you are new to BDSM or trying a different fetish for the first time, always start slowly. It allows everyone to feel safer and getting used to the dynamic. While it can feel exciting to dive in, it’s not advisable. Take male chastity, for example, it’s not realistic for a beginner to wear a cage for months without any previous experience.
  6. Continue Learning & Exploring – Always be prepared to continue learning and exploring. Try new fetishes, toys, scenarios and learn new techniques, you might find a new favourite kinky activity or something that makes your partner even weaker and willing to serve 😉
